You guys, can we talk about how underrated bright green is? I feel like I can only find it on the cable knit sweater table, but I LOVE it for going out and the personally I think it looks great on everyone. Add in a geometric cut and an open back, and consider it mine. The great thing about the a bold green is accessories can be minimal – the green gets more than enough attention.
Please attribute my HUGE smile to the half bottle of champagne I had before taking these. I thought I looked “chill”, but… I was clearly wrong. My favorite Sunday ritual! FACE MASKS. I try to also do one on Wednesday but for some reason it’s more fun on Sundays, when I’m drinking and watching Jon Snow. I’ve rounded up four that get results, no matter what your skin needs. (Half my skin is oily half is dry, so I need it all.) I don’t stick to one but instead, like to rotate a couple, so I check all the boxes over time. If you use the Boscia mask, you peel it off like a creepy villain. The other masks you wash off with water.
I used to travel all the time for my job. Like, every. single. week. That’s enough to make you crazy. When you travel that much, you start to streamline to only the items you actually need to you know, TRAVEL. Now the #1 thing I pack every time I get on a plane is what I fondly refer to as my “Go Bag”. If someone were to call me right now, and say, “Get on a plane in 3 hours”, I would grab this bag, my phone, some Ruffles and hit the road. It’s never failed me. Check out my list below and let me know if you have any other good ideas I’m missing!
An actual bag: Because you need a bag in order for it to be a “go bag”. That’s just science.
If you’re like me, you love a “theme” for your makeup when it’s the holiday. You know, a green eye on St. Patty’s or a glitter lip for Christmas. The fourth of July is no exception to this bad habit of mine. BBQs, beers, and blue eyeliner! That’s America! (Or Britain even!) But, when using red, white, and blue: tread lightly, lest others think a box of Crayola exploded in the vicinity of your face. Here’s some July 4th makeup that’s pretty, not cheesy.
And the best part, you’re done in three steps, each more American than the last. So you can ramp up or down your red, white and blue vibes as you please. Isn’t that what freedom is all about? Continue reading
Nothing says glamour like metallic gold. Lucky for us, it also says “summer!” and “beach!” and “where’s the rosé?”. The latter of which, I am always asking. And the easiest way to bring your metallic game face (literally) to the party is with gold eyeliner. Sound like a lot of work? It’s not. You just swap gold for the brown or black you’d normally use. And even a thin line (if you want to play it safe) at the base of your lashes goes a long way. (I like a thicker line, so you can see it better!) No additional skill, time or effort required, but more compliments. YAS PLEASE! Here’s how to get the look :
I love hair and makeup, but from time to time, I want to look great with zero effort. It seems unreasonable, but darn it, I WANT IT NOW. For those days, I like a low messy bun, mascara, and a bright lip to distract people into thinking I spent some time on myself. The lip pencil I ALWAYS use on these days is from NARS. Why? Because with one solid swipe, I’m off for the day, the coverage and saturation is that good. The texture is smooth, creamy, but doesn’t “bleed” onto my skin, so I don’t need to use a lipliner (one more step out of the routine). It also stays put for quite a while, which means I don’t have to constantly reapply!
It’s a great option when you want a new lipstick but don’t know what kind/brand to choose – infallible for even an amateur. NARS has over 25 colors in this pencil, so there’s one you are bound to love. Half the colors are matte, and half are satin finish. Bop over to Sephora and pick out a few. Their awesome return policy lets you return used products, so buy one or two, and if one doesn’t work out, return it.
Note: For those of you who do like to use a lipliner (and I often do), it looks even more pristine and stays on longer if you use it.
Here are three of my personal favorites.
Hey friends! I’m Alaina, and I hope that we can get to know each other better on this blog, while talking about all our favorite things. I started writing because all I really want is for the things us gals do all the time – go to work, get dressed, eat meals, travel around, date, host family… to be a little more glam. And we’re not gonna sit around wait for that glamour to come to us by some miracle, we’re going to go out and get it for ourselves. Together! I’ll share my tricks and tips if you share yours.
As for my backstory, I’m basically the worst procrastinator. I do my best work minutes before deadline. This blog is no exception. I’ve owned this .com and talked about writing a blog for SIX years. Do you know all the crazy things that have happened to me in the last six years? I left New York City and moved to Chicago, met a cool guy who cooks me breakfast, got a small pomeranian named Roxie (more on her later), MARRIED that guy who cooks, and moved again to San Francisco. (I’m staying here now, moving makes me want to puke. Also there is a good cookie shop across the street where I frequently eat dinner. They only sell cookies. I could never leave it behind.) Back to my dog: You’ll probably see Roxie’s face show up now and then because I’m obsessed with her. I’ll try to be cool, but tell me if it’s too much and I’ll pump the brakes. So, should we do this? Let’s. Away we go!
(This is me and my husband at our rehearsal dinner, and me with Roxie loving life at Golden Gate park in SF!)
