Tuesday Tip: Dry Skin Quick Fix

Do you ever try to put makeup on in the morning but are thwarted by pieces of dry flaky skin no matter how much you moisturize? Uh, yeah, me neither… but if you DO (not us), the buck stops here. Time to bring out the big guns and get rid of that dry skin fast (picking at it with your fingernail is not the answer). I have two secrets:

1) Scotch Tape: Sounds like crazy talk, but a little piece will spot treat, and remove a piece of stubborn dry skin immediately. No irritation to your face.

2) Dr. Dennis Gross Daily Peel:- Best for when your whole face needs a pick me up. These little babies make your skin instantly smooth and flawless. Use all over your face to exfoliate and smooth in two steps. Tip: Cut each of the little pads (one each of the two steps) in half to double how long they last. Use one half, and put the other unused half back in the packet, fold the top, and seal with a binder clip to keep them fresh.

Tuesday Tip: Ribbons

IMG_2703I’m starting a new section of my blog called “Tuesday Tips”. I hope to give you simple ways to glam up your life, make your beauty routine easier or elevate your style. For my debut post, I’m highlighting something that’s always close to my heart no matter my age: RIBBONS. Not only are they so versatile, ribbons of all fabrics and colors are cheap and easy to come by (any fabric store and even Target has ribbon). So you can get saturated velvets for fall and bright cottons for spring. If I’m at a craft store, I like to buy 1-2 yards (about $1) and then cut it at home. Cut the ends on a diagonal for more polish, or leave them straight and frayed for more edge. Bonus: Ribbons also make great headbands or chokers!  Continue reading “Tuesday Tip: Ribbons”

What To Get From The Sephora Fall Sale

Alright let’s get right down to it. The Sephora Fall Sale is here from now until November 15th. I’ve already made four online purchases and been in-store twice, and I’m ready to talk about my purchases. While beauty is fun, the Sephora Fall sale is serious. As for the discount, if you are VIBRouge or VIB you get 20% off (the first time VIBs get 20% too), Insiders (everyone else) get 15% off, which is nothing to sneeze at since Sephora rarely has ANY discount codes. Overwhelmed by where to start? Right here in this very post, I’m sharing my top products to stock up on.

If you’re looking for something I didn’t list (like a hairdryer or a new primer), but not sure what you want, Sephora staffs up like crazy during this sale, so go in store and ask an associate. They are super knowledgeable and will have the right recommendation based on your needs. The best part of it all? Sephora has a 30 day return policy EVEN IF IT’S BEEN USED. So, no risk at all to try something new.

And remember it’s also the perfect time to pick up replacements for the tools you use everyday but you haven’t thrown away in like, 10 years, like your eyelash curler,  blending sponge, or foundation brush. A good time to replace those grimy tools.

I Tried Glossier: Here’s What I Think

With tons of new beauty lines launching every week, I’m skeptical to try a new brand comes out. After all, can it really be better than my go-tos like Nars? So when I heard about Glossier, I didn’t think much about it. Flash forward a few years later and Glossier popped up in Vogue, and I thought – THIS IS LEGIT NOW. I must try it. For a bit of background, Glossier was started in 2014 by Emily Weiss, the blogger behind Into The Gloss and former Vogue staffer. In just a few years, Glossier has amassed a huge cult following, with up to 10k waitlists for new lipsticks.

Scroll down for my first experience ordering Glossier, the final look and “would-I-buy-again?” decision.  This is very serious makeup business.

Here are the three products I ordered.

First impressions: It arrived in 3 days, even though the site said 5-8 days. I also had forgotten I ordered it, so it was like surprise makeup. Opened to find free samples and a sheet of stickers – a fun touch. The products I ordered came in a pink zippered pouch made of bubble wrap, loving that idea. No plastic waste and I have already repurposed that bubble bag. The Boy Brow and the Generation Lipstick are smaller in size than I anticipated for $18 but it’s not a deal-breaker. (p.s. The website is super easy to navigate and checkout was quick).

IMG_8582.jpgIMG_8586These three products together lent themselves well to a berry-colored palette. I loved this look for daytime! It felt light and pretty, but I still got some full brow coverage. The only other products I’m wearing are:

Best Face Masks For Any Skin Type

My favorite Sunday ritual! FACE MASKS. I try to also do one on Wednesday but for some reason it’s more fun on Sundays, when I’m drinking and watching Jon Snow. I’ve rounded up four that get results, no matter what your skin needs. (Half my skin is oily half is dry, so I need it all.) I don’t stick to one but instead, like to rotate a couple, so I check all the boxes over time. If you use the Boscia mask, you peel it off like a creepy villain. The other masks you wash off with water.

My Travel “Go Bag”

I used to travel all the time for my job. Like, every. single. week. That’s enough to make you crazy. When you travel that much, you start to streamline to only the items you actually need to you know, TRAVEL. Now the #1 thing I pack every time I get on a plane is what I fondly refer to as my “Go Bag”. If someone were to call me right now, and say, “Get on a plane in 3 hours”, I would grab this bag, my phone, some Ruffles and hit the road. It’s never failed me. Check out my list below and let me know if you have any other good ideas I’m missing!

An actual bag: Because you need a bag in order for it to be a “go bag”. That’s just science.

Easy Lunch: Italian Kale Salad

Back to work after the long weekend, ugh. I get so bored buying my lunch out during the work week. How much Chipotle can a girl eat? Plus it gets expensive here in San Francisco – $16 for a Caesar Salad?! NOPE. But then there’s the other me that whispers: “But you are so lazy and you hate chopping the vegetables necessary to make your own salads at home.” Truth, other me. Truth.

The antidote to a delicious salad on the cheap with minimal chopping? The Italian Kale Salad. I timed myself and it took me 15 minutes (+5 for cooking the tofu) to prep three salads for the week. That’s about 6 minutes a salad, seems worth my time. Dressing: Lemon, salt and pepper (ZERO CALS). Bonus: Because it’s kale, the salad doesn’t get soggy, so you can leave in the fridge for a few days.
